DB automates data entry and synchronization with software robots
The largest rail network in Europe chose CloudStorm to automate incident reporting in their Troubleshooting department.
A highly repetitive process, involving SAP, Excel and Access databases got succesfully integrated thanks to the CloudStorm
Company: Deutsche Bahn
Industry: Transportation Services
Deutsche Bahn is the second-largest transport company in the world and is the largest railway operator and infrastructure owner in Europe. It carries about two billion passengers each year.
CloudStorm is working with the Group subsidiary DB Netz, which operates large parts of the German railway infrastructure and thus the largest rail network in Europe.
Deutsche Bahn has to handle hundreds of thousands of errors every year along its 33,500-kilometre-long rail network.
The Troubleshooting department needed to log in to various systems to find the details for a given incident and to keep data synchronised manually between custom systems and SAP.
This is a pattern that occurs in many organisations. Significant time and effort is spent on repetitive, operational activities, such as data entry and double administration.
CloudStorm offered a method to automate those activities by teaching Software Robots to handle SAP, Excel and Access databases. Instead of manual data replication, robots can update system records, and prepare and deliver reports just in time.
We are very satisfied with the quality of automation delivered by CloudStorm. Their team was competent and flexible in both consulting and implementing the automation.
We are also delighted that the SAP automation executed in CloudStorm RPA runs much faster than conventional software robots.
CloudStorm has proven to be a reliable
full-service consulting and technology provider, therefore we place trust in them as a long term RPA partner for DB Netz.
The Robot has removed the need for data interfaces to be developed between custom systems and SAP and has the flexibility for the company to rapidly change the data feeds – such as adding a new field – quickly and cost-effectively without affecting operations in any way,
The project has proven that such an automation can possibly:
- Reduce boring activities for coworkers and thus increase employee morale
- Handle ‘peaks’ in work
- Introduce a near real-time operation
- Reduce number of copy-paste errors
CloudStorm created the required automation end-to-end without needing to involve internal Centre of Excellence and without the need to hire RPA developers.
The success of the RPA use-case within the Troubleshooting Department has attracted interest from other functions within the organisation and paved the way for further RPA projects in DB Netz.
